A race can turn on one missed pit request, one forgotten fuel adjustment, or a frantic hunt through a cluttered button grid while the pack closes in. When you build sim racing macro pages properly, your Stream Deck or Corsair Galleon becomes part of the cockpit: quick to read, predictable under pressure and tailored to the way you actually race.
The goal is not to place every available command on one device. It is to put the right commands in reach at the moment they matter. That means clear page logic, instant visual recognition and a layout that survives rain, safety cars, multiclass traffic and long stints.
Build sim racing macro pages around race moments
The strongest layouts follow the flow of a session rather than the game’s control menu. A driver does not think, “I need page three, row two.” They think, “I am entering the pits,” “the rain has started,” or “the tyres are going off.” Your macro pages should answer those moments without forcing a search.
Start by separating commands into four practical areas: pre-race setup, driving adjustments, pit operations and session tools. A fifth page for replay, broadcasting or screenshots can be useful if you stream, but it should not compete with controls needed while the car is moving.
Your home page is the launch pad. Keep it clean and use it for the controls you need most often, such as your pit menu, black box or MFD, relative camera, brake bias, traction control, ABS and a clear route back to each specialist page. If a command is used only once per event, it does not need premium space on the home page.
This structure works across titles, but the detail changes by sim. iRacing drivers may need quick black box navigation and fuel controls. Assetto Corsa Competizione racers may prioritise MFD pages, wipers, lights and setup changes. Le Mans Ultimate and other endurance-focused sims reward a dedicated strategy page, particularly when stint decisions become more involved.
Make your critical page boringly obvious
The driving page should contain the commands you can press without taking your eyes off the circuit for long. Put high-frequency adjustments in fixed positions and never move them casually between profiles. For example, keep traction control on the left, ABS on the right, brake bias near the bottom and page navigation in the same corners.
Consistency builds muscle memory. It also prevents the most expensive macro-page mistake: pressing headlights when you meant to alter fuel, then discovering it at 280 km/h into a braking zone.
Avoid filling every key just because the hardware allows it. Empty space is not wasted space if it makes important controls easier to identify. On a 15-key device, three focused pages are often faster than one packed wall of tiny labels. On a larger Galleon layout, use the extra room to create zones, not noise.
Design a pit page for decisions, not decoration
Pit pages are where a good profile earns its place. They need to support fast decisions while your attention is split between traffic, pit entry and strategy calls.
Place tyre selection, fuel changes, repair options and pit confirmations together. If your simulator supports tyre compounds, use unmistakable colours and short labels rather than relying on an abbreviation you may forget after two hours of racing. Blue for wets, red or yellow for softer dry compounds, and a neutral treatment for standard options gives the page immediate visual order.
Use increment and decrement controls where the simulator requires menu navigation, but pair them with useful jump actions where possible. A plus-one-litre control has its place, yet a preset for a five-lap splash-and-dash can be far more valuable late in a race. The right choice depends on your series. Fixed-length sprint races benefit from simple presets; variable endurance racing needs more granular adjustment.
It is also worth separating pit preparation from pit execution. One area can handle fuel, tyres and repairs before entry. Another can include pit limiter, headlights, wipers and any command needed as you approach the box. That reduces the chance of changing tyre selection when all you wanted was the limiter.
Build fail-safes into expensive actions
Commands with serious consequences deserve protection. A one-press “leave session” key next to brake bias is a bad idea. So is a reset-car function that can be triggered by a hurried finger.
Move risky actions to a utility page, add a multi-action confirmation where your software supports it, or use a long press if that fits your device setup. The same thinking applies to engine start, ignition and starter controls in sims that model them separately. These are immersive controls, but they should not obstruct race-critical functions.
Give every icon a job
A sim racing macro page is read at speed. Icons should communicate function before you have read the text. That is why generic symbols and inconsistent colours cause trouble, even when every command technically works.
Use a visual system that stays consistent across every page. Adjustment controls should look related. Navigation keys should share a colour family. Safety or emergency actions can use a warning colour, while information and utility controls can sit in calmer tones. Text is still useful, but keep it short: “BB +”, “TC -”, “WIPER”, “FUEL” and “PIT”.
Do not use colour alone. A wet-tyre icon should still look different from a dry-tyre icon for drivers who race in low room light, use dimmed screens or simply process symbols faster than colours. High-contrast artwork matters too. A beautifully detailed car silhouette may look excellent in a pack preview but become unreadable on a small key.

Use layers for depth without clutter
Folders, multi-actions and page switching make it possible to create a deep control system without making the main screen chaotic. The trick is to hide complexity until it is needed.
A useful example is a race-control folder containing lights, wipers, indicators, ignition and starter. In daytime dry conditions, you may barely open it. When a weather change arrives, those controls are available in one predictable place rather than scattered across the entire profile.
For streamers, a separate broadcast page keeps scene switches, replay markers, microphone controls and chat tools away from race inputs. That division matters. Accidentally muting your microphone is recoverable; accidentally changing a streaming scene while trying to adjust traction control is distracting at best.
Multi-actions are powerful for repeatable routines. You could launch the simulator, open your telemetry tool, start a voice channel and switch the device to a race-ready page with one press. Keep race-time multi-actions conservative, though. Long command chains can fail if a game window is not active or a menu has loaded slowly. Test them after game updates, not five minutes before a league start.
Test your layout under pressure
A macro page is not finished when it looks good. It is finished after it has worked during a real session.
Run a practice stint and deliberately use every important control. Adjust brake bias through a corner sequence, change fuel at pit entry, trigger lights in changing conditions and navigate back to the home page without looking down for more than a second. Notice where your hand hesitates. That hesitation is the layout telling you what needs to move.
Then test edge cases. What happens after an Alt-Tab? Does the profile switch correctly when the sim launches? Are key bindings duplicated by another peripheral? Does a menu command require the game to be in a specific screen? A perfectly organised page cannot compensate for an unreliable binding.
Back up the finished profile before making experimental changes. Build a version for each sim rather than forcing one universal arrangement across everything. Familiar navigation can stay the same, but command logic should respect each title’s menus, physics features and race formats.
The best macro pages fade into the background once the lights go green. You stop thinking about the device because every control is exactly where it should be - leaving you free to focus on braking points, traffic, strategy and the next lap.
